Supportive One-on-One Therapy in Philadelphia
Individual Therapy with Dr. Sam Colbert
Because I believe going to therapy takes great courage, I am truly humbled to have the opportunity to travel alongside clients in their healing journey.
An Integrative, Client-Centered Therapeutic Approach
As my training is rooted in a scientist-practitioner-advocate paradigm, my therapeutic practice is guided by each client’s unique needs while also holding empirical evidence in mind.
I work to engender a safe space in which my clients can explore parts of themselves that until this point have felt too painful to examine.
I bring my whole person to the therapy process and work to point out patterns of thinking, behaving and especially feeling. I seek to help clients examine how our unique intersecting identities inform the ways in which we move through the world and how systems of oppression influence and shape our experiences.
How Can Individual Therapy Help?
Most ways of behaving develop as adaptations to earlier experiences, but they don’t always continue to serve us. Challenges often emerge when we become stuck in coping patterns that once helped, but no longer fit.
From a foundation of curiosity, I seek to learn about each of my client's unique worldviews in order to help empower them to thrive amidst life's various stressors. Some common difficulties I help individuals navigate include:
Anxiety
Dating
Decreasing Implicit Bias
Depression
Emotional Identification
Emotional Regulation
Experienced Discrimination & Prejudice
